Last line of defense

We humans use tools. All tools are by definition useful, but they can also be destructive.

Using fire gave us freedom from the cold and predators. Fire also destroys, kills and injures, but that doesn’t mean we not use it for its intended purpose, just that we use it responsibly.

Cars give us freedom to travel independently. Cars also destroy, kill and injure, but that doesn’t mean we not use them for their intended purpose, just that we use them responsibly.

Guns give us freedom from being defenseless against criminals and other predators. Guns also destroy, kill and injure, but that doesn’t mean we not use them for their intended purpose, just that we use them responsibly.

Those having used such tools irresponsibly are legitimately liable to prosecution.

Government is a tool promising us freedom from abuse, a means to unite in groups to protect ourselves against external and internal predators. Government also destroys, kills and injures.

As history shows, if citizens become complacent, not practicing “eternal vigilance,” government itself can become the worst predator of all. But that doesn’t mean we not use it for its intended purpose, just that we use it responsibly, that it not be allowed to grow so powerful that it becomes our abusive master rather than our protective servant.

Guns in the hands of citizens, therefore, have a purpose beyond protecting us against criminals. Guns remain the last protectors of our freedom, our last line of defense against foreign invaders and an abusive, predatory government.

Prevent unwanted pregnancies

Many groups are against providing birth control under their medical plans. Birth control prevents unwanted pregnancies. Unwanted pregnancies turn into abortions since virtually no wanted babies are ever aborted. The same groups are against abortion.

They appear to be against preventing the very thing they want to prevent.

Isn’t this an illogical argument?

Limiting funding to Planned Parenthood probably won’t help this situation. The Texas Legislature has probably ensured an increase in abortions. Members, too, appear to be against preventing the very thing they want to prevent.

When some desperate woman turns to a back room in Juarez and never returns to her three wanted children, those who helped set the stage are partially responsible. It did not need to happen.

Note: Studies in 2003 have shown that making this process illegal does not change the rate. It just makes it very risky for the woman.

If these groups really wanted to reduce the total number of abortions, they would do all they could to prevent unwanted pregnancies in the first place.

This, unfortunately, does not appear to be their goal.

Without one, you can’t possibly have the other.

Laugh a minute

One thing that makes leftists so endearing is their total inability to spot hypocrisy — even if it crash lands in their backyard in broad daylight after a drum roll.

Just consider the ideology argument. Statists see themselves as ultimate pragmatists. Barack Obama says repeatedly he “only wants what works for America” — while condemning anything conservatives offer as “rigid ideology and small-thinking.”

Candidate Obama was asked an interesting hypothetical in 2008: “If it could be proven to you, not just assumed, but proven beyond all doubt that lowering taxes on the wealthy would generate more federal revenue (as Reagan discovered),would you then be willing to scrap yourplans to raise taxes on the rich?”

“No,” he replied, he’d still push it out of a sense of “fairness.”

Fairness? So fairness isn’t a rigid ideology in Barack World — but conservative belief in God or liberty is simplistic rigid ideology? Go figure.

Leftists are also fond of citing a World Health Organization study ranking the U.S. 37th in world health care.

One problem: The study largely ignored medical outcomes, favoring instead criteria that ranked nations according to which had moved furthest toward socializing medicine.

The study also reported the U.S. has one of the higher rates of infant mortality worldwide (crack babies) — but that somehow doesn’t dissuade leftists from still endorsing the one medical procedure with a guaranteed 100 percent infant mortality — abortion.

God love ya, leftists. You’re a laugh a minute and don’t even know it.
