Built-in revolution

Gun rights advocates correctly state that “guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” However, I don’t see how they can contest the fact that guns make it a whole lot easier for people to kill people.

Eighty-five percent of the children (aged 0 to 14) killed by guns in the 22 highest-income countries are killed in the United States. Doesn’t the right of these children to live trump the right of gun owners to have guns that serve no legitimate hunting or self-defense purpose?

Some gun advocates believe that assault weapons and high-capacity magazines are necessary for us to defend ourselves when the government comes to our houses and tries to enslave us. How can such an argument be taken seriously by a thoughtful person?

We don’t need to wage a violent revolution because we have a built-in revolution every two years at the ballot box.

Bob Michaelsen,
Denton
