Doolittle Raid

On April 18, 1942, 80 brave men took off from the aircraft carrier USS Hornet in land-based B-25 bombers to bomb Japan.

April 18, 2013, will be the 71st anniversary of that raid. Doolittle’s (then Lt. Col. James “Jimmy” Doolittle, mission leader) co-pilot Lt. Col. Dick Cole (retired) lives in Comfort, Texas, and is 96 years of age.

This is the time to share a moment of your day in gratitude to these brave Americans.

Marriage musing

I was musing as the Supreme Court considers what to do with what’s left of marriage in our country. Lawyers long ago got us over the idea that marriage is for life; they currently are on the threshold of getting us over our hang-up with it being just one man and one woman.

I imagine cellmates in prison marrying and hanging out a “do not disturb” sign. Plus, the military. Also, what says marriage must just involve two? Why not three, even 10? And why limit it to humans and not permit marriage to anything, animate or otherwise? Even marriage to something intangible?

Trying to imagine a solution, I thought of Shakespeare: “The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers.” Figuratively, at least. Specifically, we should question whether politicians, lawyers and judges (even church ministers) can be entrusted with authority over matters as important as this.

Katy, bar the door. Onward thru the fog. ...
