Vote for Engelbrecht

On May 11, the people of Denton will have an opportunity to cast their ballots for City Council. I will be voting for Jim Engelbrecht, and this is why:

He is experienced. With four years on the City Council, and having served on the Planning and Zoning board for nine years, he has great insights about where Denton is and where we’re going. Considering Denton is one of the fastest-growing cities in the U.S.A., we need knowledge like this if we intend to balance that growth with our unique identity.

He cares about complete streets. Jim was an outspoken advocate for the bike plan, and was instrumental in helping secure the first year of funding. More bike accommodations mean safer roads for all users and a healthier citizenry.

He is making Denton safer. He helped pass a stronger gas drilling ordinance, a safe passing ordinance (protects vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and those in wheelchairs), and regulated predatory lending practices to protect the poor in our community.

He listens. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve called him up to express my concerns or ask a question. He always returns my calls and takes his time when we dialogue.

I really appreciate that.

Denton has done well during his tenure on council — we are economically strong, artistically vibrant and we have a good sense of where we’re going as a community. I will be voting for Jim Engelbrecht on May 11.

Amber Briggle,
