A few hundred people have determined who this city’s council members and school board trustees will be — and that the city would proceed with gas utilities in the vicinity of the airport.
For example, “Hawkins, who received 504 votes to Kregel’s 208. ...” [DRC, May, 12 “Hawkins wins District 4”)
The fate of a city of more than 100,000 was determined by less than 1,000 voters. Is this what those patriots fought, suffered and died for? From 1775 to 1783, some 27,000 American revolutionaries died. As we witness the apathy in society today, one wonders if their deaths were in vain?
Their deaths, and the efforts of thousands of others, allowed our Founding Fathers to unfurl what was to become the United States of America. And millions more gave their lives at places like Fort George, Bull Run, San Juan Hill, San Miguelito Ranch, Argonne Forest, Iwo Jima, Chosin Reservoir, Hamburger Hill, Fallujah and Kandahar — to protect that vision.
