Help the children
The appeals court has upheld the Texas law that puts restrictions on the provision of abortion. Gov. Perry is quoted as saying the judges have upheld the law and “the culture of life in our state.”
There is another side to the story as so starkly written by Leonard Pitts in his column on child abuse [DRC, March 28]. I strongly recommend reading this column for everyone on both sides of the abortion issues.
I want to quote from his column: “Abortion stops a beating heart … but so does a skull fracture.” Pitts ends his column this way … “We will argue, protest and legislate over a child’s right to be here before she arrives. Once she gets here, though, she’s on her own.”
There is no doubt that the current law will curtail abortions; consequently, thousands of unwanted children will be born. Probably there will be an increase in abused, neglected and damaged children.
The challenge before everyone is can we put our beliefs, our passions, our support and our money to provide support for these unwanted children and their families? I hope so.
