City livability

In reference to improved livability in Denton — has anyone out there driven on the Denton streets lately?

Myrna Cheek,

Denton

Schaake for mayor

It is with confidence that I urge you to vote for Jean Schaake as mayor of Denton. In arriving at your decision, review the city charter to refresh your understanding of the responsibilities of the position.

As mayor, Jean will preside over meetings of the City Council, the governing body that makes policy impacting the daily operations of the city, as well as representing Denton at all ceremonial events. Such a position influences the future life of the city.

In both aspects, Jean is worthy by virtue of her judgment and knowledge of the intricacies of city management. She has gained understanding of the interdependence of services to the public through years of participation in civic affairs.

Examine the committees, the leadership positions and personal stands she has taken to improve the quality of services for all Denton residents. Impressive would, indeed, be an understatement.

Think critically about the character of one so dedicated to the community. Only those with resolute values have the mental strength and patient wisdom to see the most good for the most people.

Jean possesses statesman-like qualities to further the image of Denton as a livable city. She will mediate conflicting views with fair-mindedness to both sides. She will monitor growth without sacrificing the charm of the city. With dignity and aplomb, she will evince to the citizens and outsiders a vision of the city as a place where pragmatic thought thrives, stemming from its history and traditions.

Cast your vote for Jean.

Shirley Gambrell,

Denton
