Firearms for self-defense
In Mary Sanchez’s column [DRC, May 2], she admits that violent crime is down but does not want to admit that one major reason is that more people are using guns to defend themselves and more crooks are afraid of this. Why not enforce existing laws?
Second, why do so many anti-gun people insist that the only legitimate use of firearms is hunting (and they deplore hunting), when the Founding Fathers, notably Jefferson, insisted that firearms were in large part for self-defense, notably against an overly controlling government?
Registration of firearms has proved often enough to be a prelude to seizure, as witness Nazi Germany, Britain and Australia. This, obviously, is also the intent of Americans who want gun registration.
