Letters to the editor, August 27

Appalling ignorance

In response to Walter Lindrose’s letter [DRC, Aug. 12], the ignorance he and other gun-grabbers demonstrate about gun laws is appalling!

Why can they not understand that if guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns and more innocent people will be murdered, robbed, assaulted and raped?

Guns in the hands of peaceable citizens save lives. The lawless will always be able to get guns regardless of restrictive gun control legislation. That is a fact.

The Second Amendment was intended to be a defense against tyrannical government, which our founders who wrote our Constitution and Bill of Rights were well-acquainted with.

It was adopted to protect our God-given right to life, liberty and property and specified that “the [individual] right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed (taken away by the federal government).” Any interpretation to the contrary is incorrect.

May freedom-loving Americans continue to protect and defend the right to keep and bear arms against those who would disarm us.
