Letters to the editor, January 19

Put blame where it belongs

After reading all the letters about solving society’s problems by outlawing guns, I must respond.

What a sad day when 20 children are killed at the hands of a deranged young man. And what a sad day when people use these tragedies to blame the gun industry as the problem.

Gun control and ammunition magazine limitations will not stop people from murdering other people. Some of the most infamous mass murderers in our history did their killing without the use of a gun. Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer and Henry Lee Lucas, to name a few.

No one seems to be bothered by the fact that more than 12,000 people per year in this country are murdered by drunk drivers and many of these victims are children. I don’t see anyone pushing to ban alcohol.

Also, why not blame the auto industry when an irresponsible person crashes into others, killing whole families. Is it time to ban vehicles? More people are killed by vehicles each year than by guns.

Even one murder (child or adult), whether by gun, automobile, knife, baseball bat or whatever, is one too many.

However, let’s start using the common  sense that God has given us and put the blame where it belongs, which is irresponsible people.
