Honor American values

Leftism is basically totalitarian. It pushes bigger and bigger government, top-down management, all-powerful decision-makers at the top, citizen servants at the bottom.

At its extreme, leftism produces dictatorship, all power in one person, the worshiped great leader, a Stalin or Mao.

American conservatism is basically democratic. It aims to conserve what our founders gave us: limited government, bottom-up management, citizen decision-makers at the bottom, public servants at the top doing the will of the people.

At extreme libertarianism, citizen rule produces anarchy, uncontrolled individual freedom.

The best form of government, then, is democratic, bottom-up, with free citizens ruling, but with them controlled by rule of law and by an inner moral code having them freely choose to work together and do what is right morally.

That’s why our founders believed our system could work only if Americans had a firm moral foundation in religious teachings, such as “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”

As John Adams, our second president, said, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

In losing our religious moral and ethical foundation, as we are doing, we are headed for disaster, either the anarchy of absolute individualism or the totalitarianism of national gang rule or dictatorship.

Let’s reject leftism in all its self-centered totalitarian forms and honor our traditional democratic American values, including such religion-inspired virtues as service and sacrifice.
