Letters to the editor, August 11

Discouraging effort

Thank you, Philip DeGiulio, for your letter [DRC, Aug. 2] commenting on the Republican way of health care.

I want to add one other point.

While Republicans are digging their heels into the mud trying to keep the United States from dragging itself into 20th century health care, they are also discouraging young people from signing up for health insurance.

This is a truly amazing attempt to destroy the (admittedly not ideal) Affordable Health Care Act. Their advice to young people is based, one assumes, on the assumptions: 1. that young persons do not get ill or — even more remarkable — 2. that they do not have accidental injuries.
