The League of Women Voters of Denton is delivering voter guides for the May 6 election for Denton school district trustees and for Denton City Council. Also on the ballot is Proposition 1 concerning a tax freeze for disabled people and persons 65 and older.
Print copies will be available at local and university libraries, recreation centers, chamber of commerce, City Hall, Denton County Elections Administration and on our website at www.lwvdenton.org.
We are also sponsoring a candidate forum on Thursday, April 20, in City Council chambers. We will hear from candidates for school board at 7 p.m. and City Council at 8 p.m. They will answer written questions from the audience.
Early voting is April 24 through May 2 at Denton County Elections Administration, 701 Kimberly Drive, and Denton Civic Center on East McKinney. Become informed. Vote early or on election day May 6. Please change our history of extremely low voter turnout for local elections.
Elect Emily White
Dr. Emily White is an outstanding candidate for Denton City Council in District 1 and I strongly support her. I've known Emily as a friend for many years, initially through TWU, later as our favorite Greenhouse Restaurant waitress.
I've also known her as the friend of my daughter, who was a TWU student at the time, and as my son's very demanding but excellent English professor at NCTC. She is dependable, engaging, warm, funny and very bright.
I could go on and on, but basically she would be an excellent City Council member and would represent District 1 admirably and with dedicated commitment.
I wish that I lived in that district and could vote for her.
However, council decisions greatly affect those of us who work, shop and play in Denton regardless of whether we live in and can vote in the city, and it is for that reason that I am writing this letter in complete support of Emily White.
