Freed slaves memorial
Hooray for Paul Meltzer's freed slaves memorial suggestion.
If I remember correctly, the Denton Record-Chronicle mentioned in one of their news stories that Willie Hudspeth made that very suggestion years ago as a way to balance history.
Perhaps, Mr. Meltzer's approach of going directly to the art committee will lend credence to a very good idea.
Since no one has ever addressed the art committee before, I hope that they will seriously consider the suggestion.
I, for one, would love to see a permanent statue on the Square and would lend my support.
How about it art committee?
Would you, at least, test the waters to see what kind of community support you would get? It would go a long way toward letting people know that Denton is about history in all forms.
