Brumbaugh declares for NBA draft
05/12/2005
Forward Keith Brumbaugh, who averaged 30 points a game as a high school senior last year, said Wednesday he is making himself available for the NBA draft.
"I just wanted to test the waters to see if I am ready, see if any teams are interested," Brumbaugh told Houston television station KRIV. Brumbaugh, from Deland, Fla., is in Houston to work with former NBA head coach John Lucas.
Brumbaugh has not hired an agent and has not signed with any college program.
He scored 2,299 points during his high school career. He averaged 12 rebounds and five assists as a senior.
Lucas said he thinks a number of high school players are making themselves available for the draft because they fear the chance that a 20-year-old rule is coming. Brumbaugh is 18.
"Keith has got the potential to really, really be good," Lucas said. "One or two years of college wouldn't hurt him or if he's good enough to go that wouldn't hurt him either."
