Perry & nurse wife visit Texas shelters
09/06/2005
More help is on the way for tens of thousands Hurricane Katrina evacuees who are being sheltered in Texas.
Here's a look:
-- Some hurricane evacuees in Texas will be flown to Tennessee.
A spokeswoman says American Airlines was cleared to make two flights late today -- both from Corpus Christi to Nashville, Tennessee.
American spokeswoman Denise Gorzell says the flights, with volunteer crews, come at the request of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
-- The Texas Workforce Commission is receiving about 23 (M) million dollars in federal funds to help evacuees find jobs.
FEMA also has authorized Texas cities and counties to pay for vouchers for evacuees to travel out of state, for example if they can find shelter with relatives outside Texas.
FEMA tomorrow will give out two-thousand dollar debit cards to evacuees for them to buy essential items.
-- Gov. Rick Perry today visited Louisiana evacuees at shelters in Killeen, Tyler and Beaumont.
Perry was accompanied by his wife, First Lady Anita Perry, who's a nurse.
