Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. said Friday it will begin investing in global infrastructure assets, and hired a man who advised TXU Corp. on the buyout by KKR.

The private equity company named George Bilicic as a managing director, head of infrastructure. Mr. Bilicic had been a managing director with Lazard in the power and energy area, and last year advised TXU on the buyout by KKR and other private investors.

KKR has invested in several regulated businesses involving significant infrastructure, including the former TXU, now called Energy Future Holdings, and ITC Holdings Corp., the largest transmission only company in the U.S.

The New York private equity firm also named John Bookout and Clint Johnstone to the infrastructure group. Mr. Bookout was a director with McKinsey & Co., and Mr. Johnstone was an executive with Bechtel Group.
