04:58 PM CDT on Tuesday, June 24, 2008

Associated Press

Affiliated Computer Services Inc., which runs back-office operations for companies and government agencies, said in a filing this week with the Texas Workforce Commission that it will close a facility and eliminate about 450 jobs.

The Dallas-based company said the terminations would occur around Sept. 1.

Texas Workforce Commission filings revealed other job cuts across the state:

• CWork Wireless plans to eliminate 355 employees in mid- to late-August as it shutters a plant in Fort Worth.

• Two businesses in Howard County also plan cutbacks. StarTek USA in the Permian Basin community of Big Spring plans to cut 212 jobs, and Big Spring Manufactured Homes plans to eliminate 140.

• Dillard's, the department store chain, plans to eliminate 126 jobs.
