Second shift goes back to work next week at Arlington GM plant

Workers on the day shift at the General Motors Assembly Plant in Arlington will stay home next week while workers on the second shift return to their jobs.

With demand down for the full-size SUVs that Arlington builds, GM first closed the plant for three weeks and then scheduled only the first shift to work this week.

All 2,400 hourly workers at the plant will return for the last two weeks of May, said plant spokeswoman Wendi Sabo.
