Nothing more American than a Toyota Camry, according to cars.com index
07:59 AM CDT on Monday, July 6, 2009
Is there a better way to celebrate the Fourth of July than a list of our most American vehicles?
Actually, something involving beer and Black Cats might be more fun. But in honor of the occasion, cars.com has released its American-Made Index – and it won't make some of you very happy.
In what might be a parable for our times, the Toyota Camry has replaced the Ford F-150 as the vehicle assembled in America with the largest percentage of domestic content.
In fact, Detroit automakers claimed only five spots on the list – a record low.
The full list:
1. Toyota Camry, built in Georgetown, Ky., and Lafayette, Ind.
2. Ford F-150, built in Dearborn, Mich., and Claycomo, Mo.
3. Chevrolet Malibu, built in Kansas City, Kan.
4. Honda Odyssey, built in Lincoln, Ala.
5. Chevrolet Silverado pickup, built in Fort Wayne, Ind.
6. Toyota Sienna, built in Princeton, Ind.
7. Toyota Tundra, built in San Antonio
8. GMC Sierra pickup, built in Fort Wayne, Ind.
9. Ford Taurus, built in Chicago
10. Toyota Venza, built in Georgetown, Ky.
