'35 Ford wins hot rod title
08:27 AM CDT on Monday, April 21, 2008
California may be sinking slowly into a rising sea boiled by global warming, but the People's Republic still knows a thing or two about hot rods.
You know California: hot rods and hybrids, silicone and solar power.
This incredible '35 Ford was recently named the Goodguys Street Rod d'Elegance at the 8th Del Mar Nationals – meaning you'll probably see some of the elements from this influential car on others in the next year or two.
Owned by Doug and Flo Hoppe of Iowa, the Ford was lengthened 3 inches, sectioned and its fender wells opened up and rerolled.
The car is painted an incredible green from a 1992 Ford King Ranch pickup and features a brown calfskin interior. It's powered by a 515-horse Jack Roush 402 Ford V-8.
The award is presented annually in California to honor an elegant and masterfully built street rod.
