Two Dallas public schools ranked at the top of Newsweek magazine's list of 100 best U.S. high schools for 2008. The School for the Talented and Gifted took the No. 2 spot, while the School of Science and Engineering came in at No. 4.

The magazine bases the winners on the number of college-level exams taken by all students at a school. That figure is then divided by the number of graduating seniors.

In all, 1,300 public high schools made the list, including Highland Park High School (No. 15) and Colleyville Heritage High School (No. 94).

The list appears in the magazine's May 26 issue on newsstands today.
