Texas Tech names president from Missouri school
12:00 AM CDT on Friday, July 25, 2008
LUBBOCK – Guy Bailey, the former chancellor of the University of Missouri-Kansas City, on Thursday became Texas Tech University's 15th president.
At the Missouri school Mr. Bailey led since 2006, he completed a $200 million capital campaign and saved the school $10 million in administrative costs that in part went to raise salaries to attract and retain faculty. He also presided over a 40 percent increase in enrollment.
Kent Hance, Tech's chancellor, has said he wants to increase the school's enrollment from 28,000 to 40,000 by 2020.
Mr. Bailey, 57, was named the sole finalist for the Tech post July 2. State law requires a 21-day waiting period before a job can be offered.
