2 hurt as tanks explode at gas well in rural Wise County
02:50 PM CDT on Friday, March 19, 2010
Two people were injured shortly before noon today when tanks exploded at a natural gas well in rural Wise County.
Wise County Fire Marshal Marc Dodd says the accident happened while welders were installing several tanks south of Decatur, about 35 miles northwest of Fort Worth.
Four tanks burned or suffered other damage in the explosion, which blew a fifth tank away from the main installation site.
Dodd said both workers suffered what initially were thought to be minor burns. He says one was being transported to a hospital in Dallas and the other was being treated at a nearby medical facility.
There is no active drilling at the location, WFAA-TV (Channel 8) reported. After a well is drilled, tank batteries are installed to hold what comes out of the well.
