Lewisville police arrested a Dallas man Tuesday and charged him with murder in connection with the death of Germaine Dawson, a former University of North Texas football player.

Ryan Harrison, 18, remained in the Lewisville city jail in lieu of $250,000 bail late Wednesday.

According to the arrest affidavit, Dawson's girlfriend told police she had learned Dawson was headed to Dallas to sell marijuana on March 25.

She reported him missing the next day when he did not return.

Dawson, 21, was found shot to death Friday morning in a white sport utility vehicle near an auto repair business along the southbound frontage road of Interstate 35E in Lewisville.

Another man told police that he called Harrison when he heard Dawson was missing. Harrison told him that he had the money and marijuana and that the drug deal had gone "left," according to the affidavit.

Dawson died of multiple gunshot wounds to the head, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner's office.

Harrison was arrested about 7 p.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of Creek Cove Drive, near Loop 12 and Jim Miller Road in southeast Dallas.

Dawson walked on with the UNT football team in 2005 and received a scholarship before the beginning of his freshman season. His best season came in 2006, when he started the first 11 games of the season. Injuries limited him to one game last season.

Dawson was majoring in applied arts and sciences and was on course to graduate this spring. He was active with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program in Lake Dallas.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday morning in Rockdale, Texas, about 50 miles northeast of Austin.
