Weatherford sixth-grader wins Texas Geographic Bee

Weatherford sixth-grader Matthew Thomas won today’s state National Geographic Bee, earning $100 and a spot in the national bee next month in Washington, D.C.
He battled it out through seven rounds to take the title over second-place finisher William Nober of Fort Worth Country Day School. Third place went to Eric Yang of Griffin Middle School in The Colony.
The National Geographic Bee, scheduled for May 20-21, offers a $25,000 scholarship to the winner.
Friday's competition was held the Pat May Center auditorium in Bedford. Cheryl Farrell, a Jeopardy Clue Crew roving correspondent, moderated the event.
The other finalists were Russ Allton of Dallas, Adam Camac of Katy, Hunter Hampton of Keller, Justin Otor of Texarkana, Timesh Patel of The Woodlands, Annie Salinas of San Antonio and Deepak Subramanian of Austin.
