Missing Persian Gulf War veteran found at White Rock Lake
06:20 PM CDT on Thursday, June 19, 2008
A Persian Gulf War veteran who had been missing since Sunday was found this afternoon at White Rock Lake, a family member said.
A passerby noticed Charles L. Bell, 37, wandering around White Rock Lake this afternoon and called Mr. Bell’s father, who had posted flyers in the Dallas area. Al Bell found his son sitting at a bench.
The family was happy to find him, said John Bell, his uncle.
“He was just hungry and a little dehydrated,” John Bell said.
Charles Bell left his home in Montgomery County, Arkansas Sunday to visit a friend, but he never arrived.
Mesquite police found the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe he was driving near the interchange of LBJ Freeway and Interstate 30 Wednesday morning, John Bell said. The SUV had run out of gas and was locked.
Charles Bell suffers from a mental illness that impairs his judgment, John Bell said. His family believes he traveled to the Dallas area to visit his deceased grandfather, who is buried in Granbury.
