Police seek ex-boyfriend of woman found dead in home
09:30 AM CDT on Friday, June 22, 2007
Police are investigating the death of a 30-year-old woman found beaten and strangled in her Mountain Creek home Thursday.
Andrea Peterson, a computer firm employee, had recently broken up with a boyfriend whom police describe as a person of interest in the case.
After hearing from family members that authorities wanted to talk to him, Jonathan Smith-Burrell, 26, contacted authorities late Thursday and was questioned, police said. He was released and is not facing any charges.
"We don’t have enough to file any kind of charges againts anybody right now," said Sgt. Raymond Beaudreault, a homicide supervisor.
Ms. Peterson was found face-down in her kitchen about 9:30 a.m. Thursday at her home on Jordan Ridge Drive, near Duncanville Road in southwest Dallas.
Police responded to the home after her current boyfriend became concerned because he could not reach her on the phone, officials said.
Mr. Smith-Burrell and Ms. Peterson had been together about five years but had broken up about four months ago, police said. He had moved out of the home but kept showing up unannounced.
She was in the process of trying to get a judge to sign off on an eviction, officials said.
Authorities say Ms. Peterson had repeatedly called police in recent months over disturbances involving Mr. Smith-Burrell. He was not arrested in those cases.
Earlier this month, she told police he had broken into her car and taken a garage-door opener.
Ms. Peterson's new boyfriend told police that one night a few weeks ago Mr. Smith-Burrell burst into the bedroom and slammed her head against a headboard before leaving, Sgt. Beaudreault said.
