$15,000 reward offered in slaying of computer vendor in Dallas' West End
04:01 PM CDT on Sunday, July 5, 2009
Dallas police hope a tripling of the reward being offered will help solve the slaying of Herbert Orsburn, who was shot early Saturday morning under Woodall Rodgers Freeway at Field Street.
Orsburn, 51, was one of many sidewalk vendors and shoppers gathered to buy and sell computer equipment, as they have done for years.
About 2:30 a.m., shots were fired and Orsburn was fatally wounded.
Lt. Craig Miller said Sunday that the reward for information leading to the indictment of those responsible for the death had been raised from its original $5,000 to $15,000.
Crime Stoppers is offering $10,000 and Schepps Dairy $5,000.
"At this point I believe it to be a random crime," Miller said. "We are still talking to people who were there that night."
He called the slaying senseless and said investigators don't have much information to work with, other than a description of the shooter's car – a dark vehicle with stripes of an unknown color.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Dallas Police Department's homicide unit at 214-671-3661.
