Fuel-truck driver suspected in gasoline theft
05:28 PM CDT on Friday, July 18, 2008
A fuel delivery driver is suspected of stealing 1,400 gallons of gasoline from an Irving facility, much of which ended up in tanks outside a home in far southeast Dallas.
Private investigators working for an Irving-based fuel company were following the driver today when he stopped in the 12000 block of Garden Grove Drive, a rural area near Seagoville.
“They had thought there was gas disappearing, so they hired someone to follow this particular truck and saw him unloading it,” Irving police detective H.L. Ratcliff said.
A couple of hundred gallons were taken to a location in Ovilla, near the Dallas County-Ellis County line. The rest was found in above-ground tanks outside the Garden Grove home, police said.
“Surely he would know that they were going to miss that much gasoline,” Detective Ratcliff said.
The driver had yet to be charged Friday evening. It was unclear whether the homeowner would face charges.
