Storms to bring more rain, keep temps down all week
02:06 PM CDT on Monday, August 18, 2008
Showers moving through North Texas this morning brought much needed rain — nearly half an inch at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport — and are keeping temperatures down, said Nick Hampshire, a National Weather Service meteorologist.
The storms should let up around 4 p.m. as another system moves into the area.
“We might get some heavier rains from that system,” Mr. Hampshire said. “But we are going to see rain on and off for the next 24 to 36 hours.”
Rain is forecast through Thursday, he said.
Normal rainfall for the Dallas-Fort Worth area in August is about 2 inches. The area is expected to exceed that total this month as more than an inch of rain fell since Friday and more than 1.5 inches of rain could fall over the next few days. The Dallas area, however, is still 4 inches under normal for the year.
The 82-degree high registered by 1 p.m. today is anything but normal.
“Normal is 96,” Mr. Hampshire said.
The storms should keep temperatures in the mid-80s through Wednesday with lows in the 70s. By the end of the week, temperatures should return to the 90s with a high of 92 on Thursday. Friday could reach 94 degrees.
