A slight chance of rain remains today after storms dumped several inches of rain across North Texas, flooding some streets and neighborhoods Wednesday.

Temperatures are expected to reach the low 90s today and highs were expected to remain the same over the next few days, said Nick Hampshire, a National Weather Service meteorologist.

More than 4 inches of rain fell in southeast Dallas on Tuesday night and Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. But Dallas/Fort Worth International and Love Field airports missed the downpour. Gauges at both airports recorded less than 2 inches.

There was “quite a bit of flooding” in Collin County around Wylie and Allen, Mr. Hampshire said. Nearly 7 inches fell in McKinney. Eight inches fell in Fairview.

Other places also saw heavy rains. Almost 5 inches fell in Denton. Interstate 30 in Mesquite was underwater Wednesday morning.

Even with the lingering storms, this area is below in total average rainfall for the year by about 4 inches. For the month of August, however, the metroplex is above in average rainfall totals by almost three quarters of an inch.

Collin County residents dealt with flooding in some low-lying areas, including around creeks.

Sue Hoffman, 52, who lives on Rock Ridge Road in Lucas, said she woke to find her front yard entirely submerged.

It was the second time the neighborhood had flooded in the 10 years she's lived there, "but this was by far the worst," she said.

Ms. Hoffman said she barely managed to get out of the house and down her street to take her daughter to school. The water, she said, "was about knee-high in the driveway."

More storms could return Sunday as temperatures heat up to the mid-90s.

"It is looking a little better than a slight chance, especially on Sunday," Mr. Fano said, adding the chances were about 40 percent.
