Scattered showers return to Dallas-Fort Worth
06:02 PM CDT on Monday, October 6, 2008
Scattered showers returned to the Dallas-Fort Worth area late this afternoon and are expected to last throughout the evening.
Two bands of storms are passing through Dallas and Tarrant counties, but the storms are not expected to bring the kind of heavy rain that hit the region early this morning, said Dan Shoemaker, a National Weather Service meteorologist.
Much of the wet weather will fall south of the region. The storms should move east of the area by midnight.
Storms dumped more than half an inch of rain throughout the area this morning, snarling the morning rush hour and leading to several weather-related wrecks.
The rainy weather signals “the transition into more fall-type weather, with stronger types of storms,” said weather service meteorologist Jason Dunn.
The rainfall amount is not unusual for this time of year. Dallas had been experiencing a dry spell with rainfall 6 inches below the average annual total, the weather service said. Average rainfall in October is a little more than 4 inches.
Staff writers Dan X. McGraw, Donnie Wyar and Gregg Fielder contributed to this report.
