28-year-old man accused in fatal shooting outside northwest Dallas supermarket

06:38 PM CDT on Friday, October 30, 2009

By TANYA EISERER / The Dallas Morning News

Dallas police have arrested a 28-year-old convicted felon who authorities say fatally shot a woman on the evening of Oct. 23 outside a supermarket in northwest Dallas.

Joshua Paul Bustamante was taken into custody Friday afternoon in the death of 32-year-old Teresa Escamilla of Arlington.

Escamilla and her boyfriend were in a car in the parking lot of the supermarket in the 300 block of Webb Chapel Extension when someone in a dark-colored colored pickup drove up and fired twice in to the car, killing Escamilla.

Authorities say that Escamilla's boyfriend was the intended target. He and the accused shooter were in a dispute over matters related to criminal activity.

Bustamante was sentenced to 10 years in prison for aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon in 1998.
