Oak Cliff shooting leaves 1 dead, 1 injured

08:45 AM CST on Sunday, November 8, 2009

From Staff Reports

A shooting in a residential neighborhood of southeast Oak Cliff left one man dead and another injured Saturday afternoon.

Police were investigating whether it was drug-related.

The violence began about 2:30 p.m. when several shots were fired at a home in the 2400 block of Volga Avenue, near Lancaster Road and Kiest Boulevard, police said.

A man in his 20s died as someone drove him to the hospital in the back of a pickup. Residents of the area alerted police to the truck’s whereabouts, at Lancaster and Overton roads, several blocks from the shooting scene. Police detained the driver.

The victim, who was in the pickup bed, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers later located a second gunshot victim who had fled to a residence in the 2100 block of Volga Avenue, police said. The extent of his injuries was unclear.

“We’re not sure if these individuals shot at each other or if there were other individuals that fled the location,” said Senior Cpl. Kevin Janse, a police spokesman.

Police did not release the victims’ names.
