Collin County chase ends with crash into tree – and an arrest
12:26 PM CST on Friday, November 13, 2009
A chase down Central Expressway through Allen and Plano ended with a suspect in custody.
It began shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday, Allen police said, when officers spotted someone they'd been looking for: David Montelongo, 27, who was wanted on charges of drug possession and probation violation.
An officer attempted to pull him over, but Montelongo "decided he didn’t want to stop that day,” said Allen police spokeswoman Nicole Shaw.
She said Montelongo sped south on Central into Plano, then exited into a residential neighborhood, where he crashed into a tree.
The car he was driving turned out to be stolen, Shaw said.
After crashing, Montelongo ran a few blocks and hid in a backyard, police said.
When he was found, he was arrested.
Among the charges pending against him are drug possession, evading arrest, driving with an invalid license, and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
He remained in custody this morning.
Montelongo complained of neck and back pain. He was treated at North Central Medical Center in McKinney, then released to police.
“It didn’t have anything to do with the arrest,” Shaw said. “It was a pre-existing condition.”
