Dallas County health departments received nearly 23,000 doses of the H1N1 vaccine Friday and plans to distribute them all before Thanksgiving.

Health officials will deliver the vaccine by appointment only at three public health clinic locations Monday and Tuesday in Dallas, Irving and Farmers Branch. Only the most vulnerable of residents will receive the vaccine and will be screened before an appointment is set.

"Dallas County Health and Human Services wants to get the vaccine out to as many Dallas County residents as we can before the Thanksgiving holiday," said DCHHS Director Zachary Thompson.

County health officials said of the 22,900 doses received on Friday, 16,000 will go to pharmacies.

The clinics are designed to reach those who can’t afford it, can’t find it elsewhere or have otherwise “fallen through the cracks,” Thompson said.

Individuals who will be given priority include pregnant women, people who care for infants, health-care and emergency medical personnel, children and young adults up to 24 years old and people age 25-64 who have medical conditions that put them at risk for the flu.

Dallas County has recorded 21 H1N1-related deaths.
