Hospital’s cardiac wing receives certification

08:00 AM CDT on Friday, July 3, 2009

By Karina Ramírez / Staff writer

The Cardiac Rehabilitation Department at the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton recently received a new certification.

The department received the American Association of Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program Certification in June, which confirms the hospital is meeting essential standards of care and follows certain guidelines as described in the fourth edition of Cardiac Rehabilitation and Secondary Prevention Programs.

“We were already doing everything we needed to do to be accredited, but we had not gone through the process to be accredited,” said Jeff Reecer, vice president of operations with the hospital.

“This certification is more of an affirmation to the quality of the care our rehab staff has already been providing our patients,” he said.

Since 2005, the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department at the hospital has provided care for adult patients with coronary heart disease who have had heart attacks, heart surgery, cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure, transplant, heart catheterization or stable angina.

The rehabilitation department also offers specialized exercise programs that are medically supervised by a professional staff, including an exercise physiologist and nurses trained in advanced cardiac life support.

Lanelle Noggler, program coordinator for the department, said in a press release that the hospital provides its patients with the tools and support needed to make healthy lifestyle changes.

The new certification was approved by the American Association of Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Rehabilitation national certification committee and board of directors.

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton is a 255-bed acute-care, full-service hospital serving North Texas and Southern Oklahoma with about 890 employees. The affiliate of the faith-based, nonprofit Texas Health Resources system provides emergency services, medical imaging, surgical services, and women’s services.
