Three local attorneys — Mike Gregory, Charla Bradshaw Conner and Alyson Gregory Richter — will become part of the 22 family law attorneys in four North Texas locations, including Dallas, Plano and Southlake.

Koons, Fuller, Vanden Eykel & Robertson has 14 board-certified family lawyers and 10 divorce attorneys along with other law specialists located in four North Texas locations.

Jorge Urbina recently received the 2008 Minority Small Business Champion of the Year Award from the District and Region VI of the Small Business Administration. He received the recognition at a luncheon ceremony in Arlington.

Born and raised in Eagle Pass, Urbina is the current president of the Denton Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a position he has held for the past seven years. He is also the vice president of the Denton Assistance Center, a grassroots movement to help nonprofits create a new facility for their operations and served for the past 12 years on the board of Interfaith Ministries of Denton.

Urbina is married to Patty and has two sons, David, 21, and Tomas, 17; and a 12-year-old daughter, Susana.

Denton Regional Medical Center recently participated in a Habitat for Humanity project in New Orleans.

Because the local hospital took part in the Hospital Corporation of America’s national Habitat for Humanity partnership program “Build A Hospital – Build A Home” in 2005, it was asked to send and support one employee to be a part of a volunteer team for a special build event.

This year, HCA (Denton Regional’s parent corporation) turns 40 and is celebrating “40 Years of Caring” throughout 2008. The HCA Foundation on behalf of HCA and Tulane Medical Center is the largest sponsor of the Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter Work Project in New Orleans. In May, more than 1,000 volunteers from across the country built seven homes from start to finish; finished and dedicated 25 homes; and started work on 25 homes during the week. They concentrated their efforts in the Ninth Ward, one of the areas hardest hit by Hurricane Katrina. HCA’s sponsorship included the building of one complete home and the partial building of a second home.

David Bridges, a licensed paramedic from the Emergency Department, was chosen to represent the hospital at the event. David was instrumental in the building of the Denton Regional habitat home in Denton, and was present almost every weekend. Bridges is working on a degree to become a registered nurse and should graduate by January 2009. He lives in Denton and has worked for the hospital for the past eight years.

Bridges, who spent May 11-16 in New Orleans, said his team built a complete house in just more than four days. He also attended a volunteer dinner that featured Harry Connick Jr. as well as former President Jimmy Carter and his wife Roselyn.
