Free dental care offered to underserved children

North Texas dentists, Texas Woman’s University dental hygiene students and Baylor College of Dentistry students provided free dental services to about 50 children on Saturday, Feb. 20 as part of the Give Kids a Smile event at TWU.

The event was sponsored by the North Texas Dental Society and the North Texas Hispanic Dental Association, in partnership with the dental hygiene departments of TWU and Collin College in McKinney.

The students provided free X-rays, exams, cleanings and sealants to underserved children in North Texas.

Author Joyce Gibson Roach to speak at TWU

Award-winning author Joyce Gibson Roach will discuss her new book, The Little Town That Could, on Tuesday at TWU.

The free lecture will begin at 11 a.m. in the Joyce Thompson Lecture Hall in TWU’s Blagg-Huey Library. Seating will be limited.

The book records the history of the town of Westlake in both words and pictures.

Documentary looks at civil rights heroines

Texas Woman’s University will show the award-winning civil rights documentary Standing on My Sisters’ Shoulders at 4 p.m. today in the Classroom Faculty Officer Building.

The movie celebrates unsung heroines of the civil rights movement. The screening is free and open to the public.
