Saunders to participate in Leadership America

Retired Maj. Gen. Mary Saunders, executive director of the TWU Leadership Institute, is one of 30 women from across the U.S. selected to be a member of the Leadership America class of 2009.

Leadership America, one of the longest-running national women’s leadership programs in the world, was established in 1988 to recognize and bring together women who have achieved success in their professions, communities and beyond. The program equips leaders with the latest information and innovations for professional and personal growth.

Saunders has led the TWU Leadership Institute since it was founded in 2006 to address a nationally recognized need for leadership in civic affairs, volunteer organizations, and corporate and entrepreneurial initiatives. She retired from the Air Force in 2005 after more than 34 years of service.

Saunders was the first woman to serve as director of transportation at the Air Force headquarters.

She was named a Distinguished Alumna of TWU in 1998 and a TWU Woman of Distinction in 2000.
