Hero of ‘Hotel Rwanda’ to speak at UNT
Paul Rusesabagina, whose story is told in the movie Hotel Rwanda, is scheduled to share his story at the University of North Texas at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 1.
A screening of Hotel Rwanda will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 30.
In the 2004 Oscar-nominated movie, Don Cheadle portrays Rusesabagina, a Hutu manager of a luxury hotel in the Rwandan capital who sheltered more than 1,200 people from the genocide in his hotel, including his own Tutsi wife and children, during the nation’s civil war. The war claimed more than 800,000 lives of Tutsi and moderate Hutu tribes.
Both events are free and will be in the Lyceum of the University Union, one block west of Welch and West Prairie streets.
The event is sponsored by UNT International as part of its Encounters International Speakers Series 2010.

Honorees of the program were selected based many factors, including the innovation of service projects, percentage of student participation in service activities, incentives for service and the extent to which the school offers service-learning courses.
UNT has more than 20 student organizations focused on volunteerism and community service.
