Jordan Land of Denton was awarded a $1,000 Leadership Scholarship by Chick-fil-A. Land, who is studying emergency medical technology at North Central Texas College, works at a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Denton.

Brittany Odom of Krum, Kyle Peacock of Pilot Point and Kimberly Kuykendall of Valley View received undergraduate degrees during December commencement ceremonies at Tarleton State University in Stephenville.

Stephanie Davis of Aubrey, Grant Leach, Aaron Mouser and Davie Riley of Denton, Gretchen Etteridge of Pilot Point, Jennifer Keel of Providence Village, Erin Sisco and Devin Wilson of Sanger and Charee Stobaugh of Valley View were named Distinguished Students for the fall semester at Tarleton State in Stephenville. To qualify, they maintained minimum grade-point averages of 3.25, with no grade lower than C.

Amy Hyde of Denton received the “Outstanding Sophomore Award” April 23 during an aviation awards banquet held at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Mont.

Shannel Adams of Denton, a student at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Okla., received a 2008 Who’s Who award April 25 during the university’s 40th annual honors assembly. Her award was based on scholarship ability, participation and leadership in academic and extracurricular activities, citizenship and service to Northeastern State, and potential for future achievement.

Graham Nichols Faubion Dixon, a 2004 graduate of Denton High School, was recently honored as an inductee of the University of Texas Alpha Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa.
Dixon will earn his undergraduate degree Saturday, graduating with high honors from the University of Texas at Austin, majoring in anthropology and Japanese. He is the son of Carla Dixon of Carrollton and Dr. Paul Dixon of Raleigh, N.C.

Jordan R. Farr, son of Debbie and Rick Farr of Denton, graduated Saturday from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, receiving a bachelor’s degree with a double major in marketing and entrepreneurship. He graduated from the Neeley School of Business as a vice president of events for the newly developed Leadership Program, a selective group of business students.

Sarah Pewterbaugh of Bradenton, Fla., a 2001 graduate of Ryan High School, was named to the dean’s list at Keiser University for the spring semester, having maintained a 3.9 grade-point average with a full-time course load. She is the daughter of Lynne and Doug Pewterbaugh of Denton.

The Mississippi College chapter of Mortar Board National Honor Society inducted new members into its ranks during a special ceremony April 22 in the college’s Anderson Hall. Gentry Leavell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Landrum Leavell of Denton, was inducted to the honor society, which is dedicated to the principles of scholarship, leadership, fellowship, college loyalty, self-awareness and service.

Kelsie Guthrie, a student at the University of Oklahoma, was recently selected as a recipient of a PACE award citing “participation, academic achievement, community service and excellence in leadership.” She is the daughter of Ron and Terri Guthrie of Denton.
