Dr. Kevin M. Simmons has been selected as a Fulbright Research Scholar to serve with the International Centre for Geohazards in Oslo, Norway, during spring 2010. The research project will concern the assessment, prevention and mitigation of geohazards.

The center is a partner with the World Bank within the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery. Simmons’ research has been widely cited and is largely funded by the insurance industry and on the federal level by NOAA and the National Science Foundation. He currently holds the Corrigan Chair in Economics at Austin College in Sherman.

Simmons, who is a University of Texas at Arlington graduate, received his Master of Business Administration from Dallas Baptist University in 1988 and a doctorate in economics from Texas Tech University in 1999. Simmons is the son of Hugh and Anne Simmons of Denton.

Nathan Scott Miller and Eric O’Neill Windsor, both of Denton, were named to the dean’s list at Iowa State University for the spring semester. To be eligible, students must earn a grade-point average of at least 3.5 and carry at least 12 credit hours. Miller is majoring in aerospace engineering. Windsor is a history major.

Adam McBride of Pilot Point was named to the dean’s list at William Jewell College for the spring semester. He is majoring in physical education and recreation and sport.

To be eligible, students must earn at least a 3.5 grade-point average and carry 14 credit hours or more.

Sarah Burden of Denton was named to the Regents Honor Roll at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma for the spring semester.

To be eligible, students must be named to the university honor roll for three consecutive semesters, which requires a 3.5-grade-point average.

John Burleson of Denton recently graduated from Dallas Baptist University with a degree in biology. He will be continuing his education at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston.

Lauren Ashley Dooley graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science degree. She made the dean’s list for the spring semester.

Rachel Ann Dooley has been accepted to the Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing at Hardin Simmons University. Dooley is a junior at Hardin Simmons and a 2007 graduate of Denton High School.

Elene Whitlock, of Denton, daughter of Tom and Barbara Whitlock, graduated cum laude from the University of North Texas on May 16 with a Bachelor of Science in fashion merchandising and a minor in business.
