Amy Hyde, daughter of Al and Molly Hyde of Denton, recently completed her Federal Aviation Administration commercial rating at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Mont. She is a junior majoring in aeronautical science.

Denton resident Natasha B. Hogg was recently named to the president’s honor roll at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Okla., for the spring semester.
The president’s honor roll recognizes students who achieved a grade-point average of 3.7 or higher on a 4.0 scale for coursework during a full-time semester.

Lauren Coker of Argyle was named to the president’s list at the University of North Texas for the fall and spring semesters after receiving a 4.0 grade-point average with a course load of 12 or more hours. Coker, a freshman, also was accepted into Phi Sigma Pi honors fraternity and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

Robert McCarty of Denton was named to the dean’s list at the University of Evansville in Evansville, Ind., for the spring semester. To qualify, he earned a 3.5 grade-point average while attending a course load of at least 12 hours.

Kate Starnes, a 2005 graduate of Denton High School, graduated from Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa., on May 17. She is the daughter of Jay and Anne Starnes of Denton.

Megan Self of Bartonville was named to the president’s list at the University of North Texas for the spring semester. To qualify, she earned a 4.0 grade-point average while attending a course load of at least 12 hours.

Kaylee Vann Jacobs and Joanna Katherine Parker, both of Denton, received degrees from Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches on May 10.

Denton County Sheriff Benny Parkey presented a scholarship check to the child of a sheriff’s office employee.
Sarah Hanks, 18, of Pilot Point, received a $500 scholarship check from the Sheriff’s Association of Texas through its youth scholarship program. She is majoring in elementary education at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls.
She is the daughter of Margie and David Hanks, sergeant of the Operations Support Unit of the Denton County Sheriff’s Office and a retired Irving police captain.
Sheriff’s Association of Texas scholarships are awarded twice a year to eligible children or wards of Texas sheriff’s office employees or peace officers pursuing an academic degree at a college or university. For more information, visit www.txsheriffs.org/scholarship/youth.htm .
