Denton native Melinda Richmond received the Junior Mathematics Award at Howard Payne University for the spring semester. Academic awards were presented during the Academic Awards Chapel at the university.

Three area students received degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University during May commencement exercises.

Ashley Clark of Argyle earned a bachelor’s degree in music, and Regine Skelton of Argyle earned a bachelor’s degree in forestry. Rebecca Fredrickson of Denton who received a doctorate in educational leadership.

University of North Texas student Sheila Crutcher, daughter of Mark and Tulane Crutcher of Denton, has been inducted into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and the UNT chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society. She has also been named to the dean’s honor roll. She is a Liberty Christian School graduate and will be a sophomore in the fall.

James Brandi and Lance Candler, both of Denton, and Janelle Davis of Tioga were named to the dean’s list with honors at East Texas Baptist University for the spring semester.

Michael Arthur Swartwood, son of Gail and Charles Swartwood of Denton, received his doctorate of osteopathic medicine from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences last month in Kansas City, Mo.

Aubri Thomas of Denton was named to the dean’s list at West Texas A&M University for the spring semester.

Sarah Pole of Denton recently received a Bachelor of Science degree in social work from St. Louis University. Pole is a 2004 graduate of Ryan High School.

Andrew Hall, son of Jonathan and Kathleen Hall, was named to the spring honors list at Greenville College in Greenville, Ill. Hall is a junior studying music education.

Argyle resident Julia Michelle Plangman received her bachelor’s degree in nursing during Oklahoma Baptist University’s spring commencement in Shawnee. Plangman graduated magna cum laude for maintaining at least a 3.70 grade-point average.

Diplomas were awarded to 5,787 Texas A&M University graduates during spring commencement ceremonies. Graduates include:

Diplomas were awarded to 2,779 Oklahoma State University graduates during spring commencement ceremonies in Stillwater.

Graduates include: Lauren Dower of Denton, B.S., accounting; Caitlin Crow of Krum, B.S., physical education; Rachel Schroeder of Prosper, B.S., housing and merchandising; Hannah Davenport of Sanger, doctor of veterinary medicine; and Alycia Johnson of Sanger, B.S., nutritional sciences, summa cum laude.

Texas A&M University has named its honor students for the spring semester, recognizing them for outstanding academic performance.

The dean’s honor roll recognizes students taking at least 15 semester hours who have maintained a 3.75 or higher grade-point average out of a possible 4.0.

The dean’s honor roll includes Jacob Macelroy of Pilot Point, Sarah Knezek of Sanger, Caitlin Hollar of Pilot Point, Logan Porter of Pilot Point, James Reedy of Denton, Kaitlin Burke of Denton and Kyle Hawk of Argyle.

A second designation, distinguished student, recognizes those who earned a 3.5 to 3.74 grade-point ratio while taking at least 15 hours.

Distinguished students for the spring semester include Shane Cannon of Argyle, Brittany McSwain of Argyle, Elizabeth Rentschlar of Corinth, Robyn Looney of Denton, Daniel Batey of Denton, Brock Street of Pilot Point and Erica Knoll of Denton.
