Program encourages students to learn bugle
Texas Buglers announced participation in the state’s Taps Tuition Voucher Program. The program was recently passed by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate with a unanimous vote and was signed by Gov. Rick Perry. The law took effect Sept. 1.
The program allows sixth- through twelfth-graders to perform taps at military honors funerals held in Texas and to receive a voucher of $25 per funeral to be used for higher education. Schools will honor the absent day as an attended day of school without penalty, and the student will receive a reasonable amount of time to make up schoolwork.
Texas Buglers will assist in this program by providing bugles and teaching the students how to play. Once ready, the buglers are informed of services near them that require their skills.
