Ryan principal named TEPSA president-elect

Gary Miller, the principal of Ryan Elementary School, recently was named District 11 president-elect by the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association. He also was named second-term chairman of the advocacy committee for the association.

Miller, who was named principal of Ryan Elementary in March, and his fellow officers from the 20 TEPSA districts across the state, were installed at the association’s leadership conference earlier this summer. He was previously the chairman of the association’s special committee on elections.

Before to coming to the Denton school district, he was principal of North Riverside Elementary School in the Keller school district. Miller has more than eight years experience as a principal and 13 years in elementary education.

Wilson Elementary School

Wilson named TBEC Honor Roll School

Woodrow Wilson Elementary was recently named one of the top elementary schools in the state by the Texas Business and Education Coalition, which placed the school on its Honor Roll School list for 2008.

Of the more than 8,000 Texas public schools, less than 4 percent were selected and will be honored at a reception Nov. 10 in San Antonio.

The coalition identifies honor roll schools by analyzing three years of performance data for every public school in Texas.

An honor roll school must have a high percentage of students meeting state standards on every TAKS test for three consecutive years.

Honor roll schools also have the highest percentage of students performing at the state’s most rigorous standard, commended in every subject.

The selection criteria also considers the school’s demographics, number of subjects tested and grade levels.
