DENTON ISD

District closed for Labor Day on Monday

The first holiday of the year for the Denton school district will be Monday, when schools will close for Labor Day.

All schools and offices will be closed in observance of the holiday.

Adopt-a-School kickoff and tour planned

A special tour and luncheon for Denton Chamber of Commerce members and Adopt-a-School associates is set for 9:30 a.m. Sept. 29, at the LaGrone Advanced Technology Complex, 1504 Long Road.

The event, titled “Achieving Success: From Crayons to Careers,” will give business and community leaders an opportunity to learn more about the district’s new preschool programs, new schools and the technology complex.

Participants will board school buses at the technology complex, and will first tour the new Popo and Lupe Gonzalez School for Young Children. They will then proceed to Cross Oaks Elementary School. The event concludes with lunch at the technology complex. The meal will be prepared by the school’s culinary arts students.

The Adopt-a-School program is a joint venture between Denton school district and the chamber of commerce.

For more information about Adopt-a-School, contact Sharon Cox, director of communications and community relations for the Denton school district, at 940-369-0006 or scox@dentonisd.org . The event is free. Seating is limited, so reservations are required.
