School board approves child care center funds

07:47 AM CDT on Wednesday, July 16, 2008

Denton school board members approved more money for construction of the new employee child care center during a noon meeting Tuesday.

Board members approved $158,610 for storm water drainage improvements for the site, which is on the same property as the Ann Windle School for Young Children.

The child care center project is separate from the district’s discussion on what to do with 2004 bond money for early childhood education.

In 2007, voters approved about $2 million in bonds for the 8,500-square-foot child care center with a capacity of about 60 students.

The project’s total cost now exceeds $2.75 million, after the board in May approved more than $600,000 for construction overruns, flooring and other expenses.

Shortfalls would be covered by available bond interest, district officials say.

Also on Tuesday, Denton school board members:

* Approved a fire alarm and security systems monitoring contract with Protection One, worth $48,012 for a one-year term, beginning Aug. 1 through June 30, 2009, with the option to extend by four one-year periods.

* Approved a proposal for electrical services for projects that cannot be handled by maintenance staff and electrical outlets for data projector mounts with C&G Electric Inc. for the 2008-09 school year.

* Approved a sanitary sewer easement with the city of Denton at Rivera Elementary School.

* Approved waterline easement with the city of Denton at Rivera, the Ann Windle School and Denton High School.

* Approved variable-width drainage and public utility easement with the city of Denton at Denton High.
